Unibail-Rodamco is committed to sustainable development. The Group complies with all relevant social and environmental legislation and aims to achieve growth that is economically efficient, socially fair and environmentally sustainable in all of its activities and developments.

To reduce its environmental impact, the Group works to reduce its CO2 emissions and energy consumption, make more efficient use of resources, and mitigate risks that its activities could pose to health, safety and the environment.

Unibail-Rodamco aims to maintain strong relationships with its tenants, customers, suppliers, financial partners and local communities. The Group provides communities with welcoming, appealing public spaces and supports educational, cultural, entrepreneurial and social initiatives across Europe.

Unibail-Rodamco discloses detailed social and environmental data and sets clear targets to drive future performance. It validates key aspects of its environmental program through external audits and certification programs and plays an active role in industry working parties.

Since 2012, the Group has included additional information and KPIs to ensure compliance with the new French regulation Grenelle II, Article 225 regarding mandatory and transparent communication for companies on social and environmental concerns (42 items). A specifc content table "Article 225" is published on pages 161-164.

In 2013, Unibail-Rodamco embraced the CNCC’s sector-specific guidelines for reporting against the "Article 225" for the Shopping Centre industry. The guide has been designed under the supervision of the audit firm EY.

The 2016 Annual and Sustainable Development Report fully complies with EPRA Best Practices Recommendations (BPR) on Sustainability Reporting. In addition to the fifth consecutive EPRA Sustainability Gold Award received for its compliance with the EPRA Best Practice Recommendations for Sustainability Reporting, the Group’s reporting for 2016 again complied with the international reporting framework GRI G4 (Global Reporting Initiative), based on the most material issues for the Group, and in line with its main business opportunities and risks. EPRA and GRI content indexes are published on pages 147-160 of this report.

Unibail-Rodamco's commitment to environmental, economic and social sustainability has been recognised with listings in major global indexes like the FTSE4Good (since 2005), Ethibel Excellence (since 2011) and member of the Global ESG leaders (since 2011). Unibail-Rodamco is a signatory of the UN Global Compact.
